Gowanbank remained in the Morton family until it was sold, becoming a commercial business, Gowanbank Hotel. The luxury hotel served as a wedding reception venue, popular restaurant, and drew in the Valley people for the Saturday night dance on the original wooden dance floor. The Hotel sponsored ‘Just Three’ band, who cut a record, ‘Saturday Night at Gowanbank’ in the hotel dance room and sold 1000 vinyls. In 1982, a fire started in the turret and some of Gowanbank‘s most recognisable Victorian features were destroyed and Gowanbank closed as a hotel. Over the next few years, it was refurbished, and became a private care home from 1988-1997.
